What is a Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan?

A D-SNP is a special type of Medicare Advantage plan built only for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. It coordinates both programs into one card, keeps all your Medicaid benefits, and adds extra benefits you can't get from Original Medicare or Medicaid alone — at little or no cost to you.

Grocery & OTC allowance

Many plans load a monthly spending card for groceries, over-the-counter items, and sometimes utilities or rent for those who qualify.

Free transportation

Rides to and from medical appointments and the pharmacy are included on most D-SNPs.

Dental, vision & hearing

Coverage Original Medicare doesn't include — cleanings, glasses, and hearing aids.

Prescription drugs (Part D)

Built in, with very low copays thanks to Extra Help — as little as $0–$12.65 per drug in 2026.

$0 doctor & hospital costs

With QMB-level Medicaid, you're protected from Medicare deductibles, copays, and coinsurance.

Care coordination

One plan, one card, one team helping you manage both Medicare and Medicaid benefits.

Do you qualify? Florida 2026 income guide

If you have Medicare and limited income, you may qualify for full Medicaid or a Medicare Savings Program (MSP) — either of which can make you eligible for a D-SNP. These are the 2026 monthly income guidelines for Florida (asset limit: $9,950 single / $14,910 married). Certain income doesn't count — the only way to know for sure is to apply, and we help you do it free.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enroll in a D-SNP any time of year?
Often yes. People with both Medicare and Medicaid usually qualify for a Special Enrollment Period and can switch or join a D-SNP once per quarter (and during the Annual Enrollment Period, Oct 15–Dec 7). You don't have to wait for fall — we can check your enrollment window today.
Will I lose my Medicaid if I join a D-SNP?
No. A D-SNP keeps all your Medicaid benefits and coordinates them with Medicare in one plan. You just need to renew your Medicaid each year to stay eligible — and we help you do that.
How much does a D-SNP cost?
Most D-SNPs in Florida have a $0 monthly premium, and with QMB-level Medicaid your doctor and hospital cost-sharing is covered too. Our service is always free — we're paid by the insurance carriers, never by you.
What if I have Medicare but not Medicaid?
You may still qualify for help. If your income is limited, a Medicare Savings Program or full Medicaid could make you eligible — and we'll help you apply at no cost. Even if you think your income is too high, certain income doesn't count, so it's worth checking.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes — we're a fully bilingual agency. Every step, every document, and every phone call can be in English or Spanish, whichever you're most comfortable with.
