Top Medicare Advantage Plans to Replace AvMed in Florida (2026)By Yahoska Perez | Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker | The Health Experts Insurance, Doral FL

Since your AvMed Medicare Advantage plan ended on January 1, 2026, you're probably asking the same question thousands of Florida seniors are asking right now:

"What's the best Medicare Advantage plan to replace AvMed?"

The good news is that Florida — especially Miami-Dade and Broward — has one of the most competitive Medicare markets in the country. There are strong options available, many with $0 premiums and benefits that are equal to or better than what AvMed offered.

The not-so-good news: with so many plans to choose from, it's easy to pick the wrong one — one that doesn't cover your doctors, doesn't include your medications, or costs more than you expect.

That's exactly why I'm writing this. As a licensed Medicare insurance broker based in Doral, I've been helping South Florida seniors compare and enroll in Medicare plans for years — including many former AvMed members going through this transition right now.

Here's what you need to know.

First: You Can Still Enroll Right Now

Before we get into the plans — if you haven't enrolled in a new plan yet, you are not too late.

Former AvMed members qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) because AvMed terminated its Medicare plans. You do not have to wait until the Annual Enrollment Period in October. You can enroll today, and coverage can begin quickly.

What to Look for in an AvMed Replacement Plan

AvMed members were used to certain benefits. Before comparing plans, it helps to know what mattered most to you:

  • Your doctors — Does the new plan include your primary care physician and specialists?

  • Your prescriptions — Is your medication list covered, and at what cost?

  • Your monthly premium — Many plans in Florida offer $0 premiums, but costs vary

  • Extra benefits — Dental, vision, hearing, OTC cards, grocery allowances, transportation

  • Out-of-pocket maximum — How much you'd pay in a worst-case year

No single plan is best for everyone. The right plan depends on your personal situation. That said, here are the carriers with the strongest Medicare Advantage presence in Miami-Dade and Broward right now.

Medicare Advantage vs. Medicare Supplement: Which Is Right for You?

While Medicare Advantage is the most popular replacement for AvMed — since it's the closest comparison — it's worth knowing that Medicare Supplement (Medigap) is also an option.

Here's the key difference:

Medicare Advantage

Medicare Supplement

Monthly premium

Often $0

Higher monthly cost

Network

Must use in-network doctors

Any doctor that accepts Medicare

Out-of-pocket max

Yes, capped

Very low with the right plan

Extra benefits

Dental, vision, OTC, etc.

Fewer extras

Best for

Seniors who want low premiums + extras

Seniors who want maximum flexibility

A licensed broker can run both options side by side for your specific doctors and budget so you can decide which structure makes more sense for you.

What I Tell Every Former AvMed Member

When an AvMed member calls me, the first thing I do is ask three questions:

  1. Who are your doctors? I check every name against the new plan's network before we go any further.

  2. What medications do you take? I pull the formulary for each plan we're considering and compare your drug list line by line.

  3. What did you pay with AvMed and what do you want to pay now? I find plans that match your budget — including $0 premium options if that's what you want.

Only then do I make a recommendation. Because the best Medicare Advantage plan in Florida isn't the one with the flashiest TV commercial — it's the one that covers your doctors and your prescriptions at a cost that works for you.
